Today, peint main Limoges boxes are enjoyed as beautiful objects of exquisite craftsmanship. Originally, however, they were used as snuffboxes, and considered almost an integral part of ones wardrobe, to be carried in ones pocket like a fancy cigarette case. When snuff-taking lost its popularity, the boxes lost their original purpose. In the early twentieth century, they were commonly used as pillboxes. They may still be used for such purposes.
On offer are three smaller Limoges trinket boxes. The first is the rare "Paris Landscape with Artist & Easel". Hand painted featuring an intricately formed artist and easel seated within. 7cm.
The second is a 22 carat gold finished egg with a wedding cake and candle featured within. 7cm.
The third egg is a small gold finished item with butterfles, lady birds and dragonflies. Another dragonfly hides inside. 3.5cm in height.
All in perfect unboxed condition.
