This listing is for a Rare Duquesne Mine Supply Co Framed Chain BIT, framed with a nice note on the back. It is a nice piece of vintage / antique Industrial history, and an item that was likely rarely if ever saved- resulting in them being in short supply today. The note on the back really ties it together, giving a little history and provenance to the piece. My thought was make a nice notation on the front to denote what it is- buyers prerogative. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of styles of decor. It makes this an excellent extra piece for your collection, one your friends definitely wont have! It is a great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor
The note reads; “Duquesne Mine Supply Co. - Pgh (Pittsburgh) PA - made many of these bits during years 1922 to about 1942” and then below; “Era of about 1915 to 1945 (a small age discrepancy here) mining machine bit, used in cutting chains to undercut coal. Made of high carbon steel and points were hand made. Replaced with alloy body -illegible- bits, approx same shape but caroffere points”
It is in good condition, with no major damage. The bit of course by nature of its construction is in great shape. The frame has a little water stain on the backing, but it could easily be replaced once the note is saved.
