Here's a greatchance to own a real pieceof history with this original August 23 1938 Newspaper giving a fascinatinglook at international developmentsbefore the advent of WorldWar II and a day of English cricket history
Background : The 23rd August 1938 is a day embellished in the history of both Yorkshire and English cricket. It was the day when Len Hutton, of Fulneck near Pudsey scored a world record 364 against Australia in the Fifth Test match at The Oval. Batting first, Hutton and England amassed another record for an innings total of 903-7dec, while fellow Yorkie, Maurice Leyland hit 187 as part of another then record-breaking partnership of 382 for the second wicket. Needless to say the Aussies, asked to follow on, were ultimately thrashed by an innings and 579 runs. Hutton’s record would last for another twenty years until Garfield Sober’s 365 not out in 1958.
