MT. WASH. SUMMIT HOUSE, YALE, VINELAND HOTEL, HISTORIC BLDGS, HOMES - CDV PHOTOS:
$245.00

We are offering 9 original CDV photographs - 1860s/early 1870s.
1.) Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts. Photo by renowned photographer Charles D. Fredricks, 587 Broadway, New York. Written in pencil at the top is "Original from the album of Royal Marshall, Williams College 1863". From what we have read, by 1815, the college had only two buildings and 58 students. This building was possibly one of those two original buildings.
2.) Lovely house, with a 2nd floor balcony and a white fence surrounding it. The ground is covered with snow. The houselies on the corner of two intersecting streets. Photo is by J. T. Wixson, Lexington, Michigan.
3.) Delta Kappa Epsilon Hall, Yale College, New Haven, CT (which is written in pencil on the back). Photo is by Moulthrop, Chapel St., New Haven, Connecticut.
4.) Summit House, Mt. Washington, 1861 - (printed at the bottom). Photographed & Published by J. P. Soule, Boston.A group of 15 men and women are standing outside, with the women wearing hoop skirts.
5.) Ladies School, Clinton, Iowa. Written on the back is "This is the School Building - my room is on the left side, up one flight". (No photographer's name)
6.) A very large, interesting looking house with a small building behind it - possibly a carriage house. Photo is by Abbott & Tinsley, 150 State Street. Written in pencil is "1873-75. Chicago, Ill."Most houses were built with the first floor and entry to the house at ground level. In order to enter this house, a person had to ascend a pretty steep staircase up to the porch. There appears to be an open space below the first floor, higher than a normal crawl space, possibly used for storage, and at the back of the house a portion of this lower space is enclosed and appears to have two small windows - possibly servants' quarters or maybe a kitchen - just guessing - we don't know for sure.
7.) Montage of 4 Historic Buildings, Hudson, New York. Photo is by F. Forshew, Hudson, New York. We assume the buildings were in Hudson, NY because of the photographer's location, but we suppose they could have been located somewhere else in New York. We haven't been able to identify the buildings. They appear way too large to be homes.
8.) Lancaster County Courthouse, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Photo is by Reading & Bonine, Lancaster, PA. Written on the back in pencil is "Samuel Sloan Court House 1852". Samuel Sloan was the architect of the Lancaster County Courthouse.
9.) Vineland Hotel, New Jersey with a man sitting on the porch. Photo is by H. D. Clark, Vineland, New Jersey. Written on the back in period ink is "Samuel gave this to me in 1871". And underneath "Vineland Hotel".
