KNIGHTLY MASSIVE TYPE XIIIA TWO-HAND FIGHTING SWORD CIRCA 1350: The knights sword of last resort !!!

Introduction:Nothing invokes the true spirit of chivalry and knighthood like the cruciform sword. Among swords, nothing says chivalry and knighthood like the Oakeshott type XIII, the knight’s sword of last resort when alllooks hopeless.
Discussion:Before you is arare opportunity to own one of the most sought-after swords by collectors. The Oakeshott type XIIIa sword is the Knights sword of last resort. This massive two-hand sword was usually carried on the saddle because of itsexceptional size and weight. The type XIII is a broad, flat sword. The grip is rather long. The fuller measures half of the length of the blade, and some examples have multiple fullers running parallel to one another. The point is rounded, and the sword was primarily a slashing weapon. The subtype XIIIa is often larger than XIII, with a broad, flat blade measuring 32 to 40 inches in length. Like the type XIII, the XIIIa has a broad blade with one or more fullers; the point is rounded and has a long grip, which allows a true two-handed grip. All Type XIII swords date from the middle of the 13th century (c1250) to the end of the 14th century (c1390).

Description:This is a ground find retaining its original wood grip. The pommel is of the style H1, constructed with a broad, flat, double-edged blade, pointed at the tip, two-thirds length fuller on both sides of the blade starting two inches in the tang before the forte block, cross guard slightly downward turning with spatulated ends, and a modified Oakeshott type H1 pommel. It is patinated throughout and incondition 2. It is professionally housed in a frame with a velvet background and plastic see-through front.

Sword Length:approximately46 inches.

Frame Dimensions:12.5 X 1.5 X 49.5 inches approximately.

Conclusion: This a rare opportunity to own an XIIIa, one of the most sought-after swords by collectors, but at a price a lot less than you are expecting to pay.
