Flying a modified Stinson SM-1 Detroiter named "City of Chicago," they aimed to demonstrate the potential for continuous flight. The brothers took off from Sky Harbor Airport in Northbrook, Illinois, on June 11, 1930. Through a series of in-flight refueling maneuvers, they managed to stay aloft for an unprecedented 23 days, covering 553 hours and 41 minutes before landing on July 4, 1930. The refueling was carried out by another aircraft, which transferred fuel, food, and supplies. This flight captivated public imagination and highlighted advancements in aviation technology and techniques.
