Antique thermoplastic (gutta percha) union daguerreotype hinged case for a quarter plate image made by Krainik, Krainik and Walvoord #29, with an image of "Sir Roger de Coverly and the Gypsies" on the cover. According to the internet it was patented October 14, 1856.
It measures about 4 by 5 inches, hinges along the side with a red velvet insert on one side an brass mat with oval cutout on the other with a daguerrotype (I believe) image of a father and daughter on the other. Outside corners have some chipping. Otherwise in very good condition -- see pictures
