Up for sale is a Circa 1830 French Polynesian Austral Islands Carved Tamau Wood Ceremonial Paddle! Specifically crafted during the first part of the 19th century in French Polynesia on the remote island of Ra'ivavae located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, this intricately carved paddle features lovely alternating geometric motifs and an abstract zoomorphic pommel handle. This paddle was most likely either used as part of some sort of a dance ceremony or made as a souvenir for European travelers of the period. It measures 35" long. The piece is in great overall condition with minor signs of wear consistent with its age and use (scattered light surface wear; some small losses on edges of pommel handle; light edge wear).
