For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1929 Sheaffer Oversize Balance Fountain Pen in the Jade Green Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in great writing condition!
Note: This Balance is a 1st Year style due to the clip reaching to the top of the cap banding.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the Gold Filling Sheaffer Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Gold NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel, cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the White Dot with a gold-plated clip. The Clip does not display any gold-filled wear and is stamped with, "SHEAFFER'S". The cap banding displays no wear. The Gold Filled Lever is in excellent condition with no wear. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. PAT'D-PAT. PENDING". There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. The color of the Jade displays gorgeous green coloring - the very end of the barrel is a tad darker. This Oversized Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen measures 5 7/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.
I have restored and tested the lever-filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling system works as it was originally intended to.
This Sheaffer has the SHEAFFER LIFETIME 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a Fine point measuring roughly .52mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with an extra fine to medium stroke/line that varies between .40mm to .63mm when measured with digital calipers. The nib writes very rigidly - it won't win any awards to soft and flexible but is a solid performer! The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
This is a very Rare Oversized Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen in the Jade Green Celluloid that would grade in Very Fine+ to Excellent Condition. The coloring of the barrel and cap are in great condition with no gold-filled trim wear which makes it a prize for the new collector's writing arsenal collection.
