Beautifully CraftedCirca 1965-70sAfrican Polychrome Carved Wood Mask
VINTAGEBWA BA TRIBEANTELOPE PLANK MASKfrom BURKINA BAY
49.75" tall x 8" wide x 9" deeporiginal hanging wire is still attached
This mask was part of the Constance McCorkle Collection. Ms. McCorkle was an agricultural ethnoveterinary researcherworking during the Mid-1960-70s in Western Africa.I bought some pieces from her collection.Other pieces were chosen by staff from the Smithsonian Institution for their use/collection.
She told me was that it belonged to the Bwa Ba tribe in Burkina Bay.I believe this is a deer/antelope motif plank mask.I have not found any similar masks online for sale. One individual reviewed this listing and advised me regarding typical costs for similar masks. This would be a nice addition to any African art collection.
Please review the photographs carefully! The use of the camera's flash has accentuated the colors. Its actual appearance is still stunning but the colors are more muted.
This listing is for one (1) Burkinka Faso Plank Mask
