Ultra rare style of birdstone. Some call them nesting birdstones, actually they are prehistoric slug effigies.
Slugs were to the prehistoric people of North America symbols of reincarnation or rebirth as they were the first living
things to emerge from the frozen Earth each spring. I believe these slug effigies were equivalent to the cicada
effigies buried with the ancient Chinese.
You can see the slug characteristics in the low slung body, the four tentacles instead of "popeyes"
the wavy base and the stubby tail.
This made out of a beautiful material with red, white and black minerals in a green matrix.
Transverse ridges on base however they were not drilled.
4 3/4" long, 1 7/8" width, 1 3/8" height.
