The piece has some scuffing on the interior noted in pictures. Not a lot of discoloration on the metal hardware doors no rust but the gold overlay is worn from (?) use and age. It has been well preserved. The unit depends on gravity for the front doors to close securely. it is meant to be in an upright position for use. For display, however, it is possible that the choice would be to put it on its side presenting the top as the front- for display. I noticed that when placed on it's side the doors are wanting to be a little loose but they do stay where they are supposed to with out fail aside from being on it's unnatural side.This item will be shipped promptly and packaged very carefully.
