Antique FS Mechanical Windup Spooky Wood Mantle Clock Black Etched Mossy Oak For Sale

This antique mechanical windup and kind of Spooky looking Wood Mantle Clock is a one-of-a-kind item with a story that every collector would love to have. The clock comes in a black color with some etchings on the front and appears to have a mossy oak pattern trim that gives it an antique and spooky look. My opinion says it's been repainted at some point. It definitely shows much age.

The story, as told by a family member, passed through the saleeer to myself.

This came from an estate where the family stated that this was in their father's living room up until his passing and was working. In fact, it was chiming when the family discovered their father. The key or keys were next to the clock when it was taken to the son's home. The son wound the clock after placing it in his living room just as his father would do. He couldn't get the clock to work and figured he didn't wind it long enough, or perhaps it was bumped en route and needed adjustment. Later that night, he was awoken by the clock's chiming bell, or so he thought. It seemed to ding the bell several times as if it were the stroke of midnight.

As he entered the room where the clock was, the bells went eerily quiet. Actually, there wasn't any sound that would be normal with these antique clocks. Upon looking at it, it stood silent and still displayed the current time that is on it now. He checked the time on his cellphone, and it was the correct time, 5:44 am. He couldn't figure out why it was chiming for so long, though.

The next evening, he decided to take a look at the clock. He reached for the keys that were set next to the clock, but they weren't there. He didn't put much thought into it as he was sure he must have accidentally taken the keys back to his room after going back to bed this morning. He went to his bedroom to look, but unfortunately, the keys weren't there.

Again, he was awoken by the clock's chiming bell and at exactly the same time. This time, the sound was eerily off. It was more off-key and a bit scary sounding. He quickly took the clock out to the garage, and later that day, he had a family member take the clock to sale.

The thought was that his father had passed away at the time displayed on the clock. I haven't given it much thought to check if it goes off at that time or not. I recently saw it amongst things in storage and remembered the story that went with it and figured I'd include it.

Unable to test, no keys were ever found.
