1934 CHICAGO WORLDS FAIR PORCELAIN DONKEY PULLING TOILET SOUVENIR ASHTRAY
This donkey figural ashtray was part of our huge Worlds Fair and Exposition Collection. We mostly collected 1933/34 and 1939/40 items but also have many pieces from much earlier to much later Fairs. We offered the entire collection as a buy it now on with no takers and have since been selling it piece by piece. My husband, seller named Jal12147 and I will be listing pieces till it’s gone.
This is one of those pieces that you question its existence, but still purchase it as a world’s fair item. It’s cute. The porcelain donkey is attached to a cart holding a realistic toilet with a wooden lid held on with a thin wire. The toilet is an ashtray and it bears a world’s fair logo on the side. It’s all one piece and is in very good condition. There are no chips or cracks and the painted finish is good. It’s marked “Made in Japan” on the bottom. The figural measures 4-1/2” long, 2” wide and 2-3/4” high.
