1918-1919 Antique Woodrow Wilson Hand-Painted Patriotic Plate For Sale

This is most likely a very rare Woodrow Wilson item. I have searched for a long time trying to find another and I could not. It is a heavy pottery plate that measures 11\" in diameter. It reads \"De Machtigste Idealist – In Den Grootsten Strijd – 1918 1919\" which translates to The Most Powerful Idealist in the Greatest Struggle. The plate is completely hand-painted, even the lettering is all done by hand.I have talked to the Woodrow Wilson Museum and they said they have never seen another. They suggested this was most likely made in Belgium or the Netherlands and could refer to the time Wilson spent in Europe negotiating the treaty after WWI (December 1918 – July 1919). It also could be something to do with the Nobel Peace Prize that he won.On the back it is again completely hand-painted and reads \"Simplex Veri Sigillum! M. BUP. H. No. 50.\" The Latin translates to Simplicity is the Sign of Truth or Simple True Seal. This could have a little bit of a connection to the Dutch physician and botanist Herman Boerhaave. There is a chance that the M. BUP. H. stands for Made in Budapest, Hungary, but that is just a guess.The plate is No. 50 so I\'m assuming there was a very low number of these plates made and judging by the quality, they probably weren\'t something sold as a souvenir in a shop but made with a purpose for a specific event that may have been at the time of Wilson\'s visit. It has a very European style, almost a little art nouveau.The plate is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks anywhere. On the bottom foot there are 2 small holes that were purposely used for hanging the plate. There is just the tiniest fracture from one of the holes going to the other side of the foot to the opposite end (see last photo). I have a feeling that the fracture was probably caused by excessive heat during the firing process.Truly a rare piece of U.S. presidential history.Please ask if you have any questions.
