$65.00

We are offering the [Hand Book of [Acorn] Stoves and Ranges. Construction, Operation, Sales. Published by Rathbone, Sard & Co., Albany, New York. Manufacturers of Acorn Stoves and Ranges. Copyright 1915.(5" x 7 1/2"; 117 pages, plus index)[Last section of book is a catalog of 8 different stoves with prices from $46 to $90.]Joel Rathbone, who was the creator of Acorn stoves in 1830, made patterns of how he believed stoves should be built, sending them to blast furnaces in Pennsylvania where castings were made from his drawings.Rathbone's Acorn stoves and ranges were so innovative, efficient and sought after compared to existing stoves, that he was able to establish his own foundry on the premises in a few years to build his stoves. The book has photographic prints of John F. Rathbone, son of Joel Rathbone and successor; and of the foundry floor with men pouring metal.
This handbook is filled with illustrations and descriptions of the different Acorn stoves and of their parts including Fire Box, Oven Rack, Grates, Draft, Reservoir Damper, Ash Pit, and Oven Door (that opened with the press of a pedal with the foot), etc. Also shown is the Acorn De Luxe Range (for even baking) with a "state of the art" ventilating system for controlled heat throughout the stove [sort of like the convection oven of today]. The Dual Acorn Range, equipped with gas burners, worked with either gas or coal.
