Offered here is an elusive AN-J-3A flight jacket made by Monarch Mfg. Co. Milwaukee under contract No. N288S-28665 in fiscal year, 1944. They were produced only for 4 years, therefore their scarcity.
The AN-J-3A is a model with further revised specifications based on the Spec AN-6552. But the name of the spec itself was to conform a common model flight jacket for the Army and Navy at the end of World War II.
This example belonged to USNR Lt. Cdr. Kenneth Lee Brown, but I haven't been able to find any info.
This example shows honest wear, which is expected after almost 80 years. The goatskin leather is a bit dry and shows some flaking over the shoulders. All parts are genuine to the jacket but the zipper pull is missing. The mouton fur on the collar has fallen over the time. The tag is still present and it's marked as size 36.
Left chest depicts the name tag impressed with Naval Aviation Observer wings, and "LIEUTENANT L. BROWN USNR". This insignia was approved by the U.S. Navy near the end of WWII and was short lived, just two years later would be abolished.
Included in the group is a set of 9 photos from Lt. Brown and his original 1958 yearbook from N.A.S. Quonset Point.
