Antique Lithograph Print European Surrender of Jaluit Island To Japan 1914\"Germany treated the Marshall Islands as an economic colony and never made any attempt to fortify or defend them in case of war. Thus when World War I broke out, Japan, which had joined the allies quickly after the beginning of the war, sent a naval squadron and took possession of the Islands in October 1914\". Wikipaedia. So the Europeans referred to in this picture were the Germans.Extensive commentary on the sides in Japanese. There is a date indicated in Japanese 20th Day of the 10th Month of the 3rd Year of Emperor Taisho (Oct 20, 1915), although this is likely not the date of the surrender: it could be the date that this poster was made. It also has another date Oct 25th 1915, which is likely the date which this was distributed. Also that this was printed in Tokyo. Has \"Made in Japan\" in English. The English test on the bottoms states \"The Japanese Navy accepted surrender of the Yaluit Island Marshall Group in South Sea\", and \"Illustration of the Graet (sic) European War No. 28\"The good quality paper shows appropriate age, although no tears . I used a 10X loupe and the picture shows all the characteristics of a lithographic print, definitely NOT digital printing. The Japanese characters and English characters appear to be block printed. There are some numbers scribbled in the back, although they don\'t seem to mean anything (see last pic)..If you search in Yahoo images images, you will find a single picture of this poster. Please do not hesitate to contact if you need more photos.
