ORIGINAL SIGNED LETTER - ROBERT STEPHENSON to R.B. Dockray, Scott Rail, YORK STATION, 25th Sept 1846.
The letter refers to asking Dockrey to send Mr Labry at York Railway Station a piece of the new Scott Rail with a point and intermittent chain.
Robert Stephenson FRS HFRSE FRSA DCL (16 October 1803 – 12 October 1859) was an English civil engineer and designer of locomotives. The only son of George Stephenson, the \"Father of Railways\", he built on the achievements of his father. Robert has been called the greatest engineer of the 19th century.
Robert Dockray was born in 1811. He came from a Quaker family and was educated in schools of the Society of Friends, at Kendal and Darlington, and became an assistant engineer in the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1835 and five years later, at the age of 29, became the resident engineer under Robert Stephenson as consulting engineer.
