"Spill vases were used for keeping 'spills' which were long, thin pieces of wood for lighting the fire. They were usually kept on the mantlepiece." While the spill vase dates back to the 15th century, these pieces in particular were made in the 1800's in Paris, France. The leaves and flowers would have been hand-applied and then hand painted. Their heyday was in the 1840's and 1850's. Spill vases fell out of favor in the 1860's.
I have other spill vases listed, and will combine shipping if asked.Volume discounts available! Thanks for looking!
