This is a beautiful antique late 19th century Victorian ornate gold frame.
I would estimate it dates circa 1890s.
The overall frame measures 31 1/2 inches x 35 1/2 inches (80 cm x 90.2 cm). The back opening size measures 25 1/8 inches x 29 1/8 inches (63.8 cm x 74 cm). The molding width measures 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm).
The frame is made of wood with applied decorative composition.
Though it looks like gold gilt, I am fairly certain the finish is simply a beautiful gold color. There is however, a 3/4 inch flat strip of the finish which is lemon gold gilt going around the center of the frame. You can see many of the lines where the gilding was layed.
There is a 1 inch piece of the composition missing along the bottom in the photos. There are a few other small nicks and some light wear to the surface, but nothing other than the chip stands out. The outside edges are both lighter and darker gold colors. On the right side though, there are some chips and wear to the surface. I have tried to photograph these. Generally speaking though, they really are no big deal.
Overall, the frame is in remarkably good condition.
There is no glass.
It weighs 11 pounds 8 1/2 ounces (5.234 kg).
It has what I always look for in frames, that wonderful old world look!
