Imagine stepping back in time and going on the adventure of world discovery to far off lands?! Take your sundial compass pocket clock with you! It will show you direction, time and location. This vintage compass makes a great nautical gift to anybody who appreciates fine things or is interested in history.
Our brass sundial compass is a beautiful replica of its original made in 1750 by Roger Rangers on Roger’s Isle. In its basic form, any nautical sundial is a simple tool, basically unchanged from its inception thousands of years ago, and is known as the first scientific instrument. Like the sundial, antique compasses were a basic device that utilized the Earth’s magnetic field.
The top of this pocket sundial is hinged, and a curved scale is used to set your local latitude angle. The magnetic compass allows the sundial to be oriented North. There is a needle lift mechanism that protects the compass\'s jeweled bearing when being transported. The sun\'s shadow cast by the sundial\'s vane marks the local time.
The top of the sundial is flat, and both the latitude scale and the sundial vane are hinged to lay flat for compact storage.
