vintage amber glass bottle brown miniature Porter alcohol lamp For Sale

Beautiful & tiny, Porter's antique alcohol lamp in gorgeous, amber glass. These lovely lamps were actually part of chemistry sets for children made by the Porter Chemical Company in MD in the early 1900s. The company was run by brothers, Harold & Jermain Porter. I am not sure if the brothers were related to Henry Porter, originally from Portland ME, who invented & patented "Porter's Burning Fluid" in 1835 & sold it in his shop in Boston. It was a specialty lamp fluid comprised mostly of alcohol, along with turpentine & camphor that became very popular as a lamp lighting fluid. I suspect these men were somehow related, perhaps Henry's sons? Regardless, the brown glass bottle is embossed on both sides & in mint condition. It has a twist on cap with the wick attached. Looks to have only been used once. A wonderful piece of American history that is unique & highly collectible! Bottle measures 2" tall x 1 3/4" wide. The glass is clean with no chips, dings or scratches. Twist off wick cap is made of metal & works beautifully. There is a small amount of patina & signs of heated use on the top of the cap, which is to be expected. The number 7 is embossed on the bottom of the bottle.
