massive & nice moving filletster wood plane w/ Butcher Sheffield 3-1/16\" iron:
$165.00

You are offerding on one massive moving filletster wood plane as pictured.

I can\'t find any markings on the body.

The iron is marked \"W BUTCHER SHEFFIELD\" with his usual arrow logo.

The body is about a 32nd under 15\" in length, and about 3-7/8\" in width NOT including the fence or the depth stop.

The iron is about 3-1/16\" in width measured straight across near the lower end, and about 8-3/4\" in length to the longest point. It is a tapered iron, about .205\" thick at the thickest point near the sharp end, and about .095\" thick near the upper end.

The plane features:

--- the skewed iron as described above.

--- the full length fence, which has steel escutcheons around the two screws.

--- the full length depth stop, which also has steel escutcheons around the screws.

--- and the open style rear handle.

It weighs 5 pounds 13.8 ounces on my postal scale.

Condition of the plane is mostly very good, reasonably clean with good color, and most of the issues are with the fence and depth stop.

The right edge of the fence has a split at each escutcheon, probably from the escutcheon pushing through the thin wood there. The left hand end of each escutcheon has a crack that shows on the bottom facing surface of the fence. All four escutcheons have some rust. The rear screw on the depth stop is a replacement, and the other 3 screws are quite worn in the screwdriver slots. There is an empty screw hole on the back end of the fence.

Condition of the body itself is very good, with a variety of minor scratches and dings in the wood, some stains on the left side, and a couple of tiny holes that might be worm holes. The rear handle is unbroken, but has some tiny chips around the upper perimeter. And it seems well attached to the body. Both of the little \"wings\" that hold the wedge have tiny cracks, while the wedge is in very good condition with only a few small dings on the upper end.

The iron has some scattered areas of patina (color) and rust and pitting and casting roughness, with more on the back side than on the front. It is lightly peened over on the upper end.

The iron and wedge both appear to be original to the plane.

SHIPPING: 8 pounds when boxed, way too big for a Flat Rate box, insurance is included. No International shipping.

l sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. So please keep watching my postings as I have LOTS more to list!

Searching my listings: I have lots to see! Some of you will undoubtedly enjoy browsing through everything, but if you want to hone in on something specific, I suggest you click on the \"Visit Store\" link in Seller Information section in the upper right of this listing. That will lead you to my extensive system of categories.

How to subscribe to my newsletter? Every Friday sends out my newsletter featuring 10 of my most interesting new listings. To subscribe, click the VISIT STORE to go to my store and then click on the heart symbol that is labeled SAVE SELLER. That will automatically get you on the mailing list for the newsletters. They are free, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on , and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and sales with pictures only of the left side because the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you offer, and especially before you receive it in the mail. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. What goes around, comes around.

RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn\'t need a return policy. However, that doesn\'t mean that I won\'t make an occasional mistake. Please offer with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you. And if you have made an error, and bought the wrong size, for example, I will still take care of you (but I’ll let you pay the return shipping!).

USPS POSTAGE RATE INCREASES: I use the Post Office for everything, and yes, the shipping charges just keep going up and up. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it\'s not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20\" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30\" long, because those longer packages won\'t fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights.I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.

SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including . If I ship to a state where is required to collect sales tax, will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands -- I don\'t have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don\'t have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to .

SELLING OUTSIDE OF : Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the email system? Please don\'t ask, the answer is no.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$.

sales: I won’t end an sale listing early to sell it to you directly. As a buyer, I really dislike going back at the end of an sale to offer, only to discover that the seller had ended the sale early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.

PACKAGING: Please check my response -- I package well. I figure if you take the time to purchase from me, then I can take the time to package it well, and not just throw it into a cereal box with a scrap of newspaper.

I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting!
