The late 50's and early 60's were a low point for the adventures of the caped crusader. After the comics code eviscerated the medium in the mid 50's Batman stories became increasingly muddled, mundane and often just dumb. Champion artist DIck Sprang retired and Sheldon Moldoff's less than refined pen became the norm for a bleak period of bad sci fi, contrivances and Bat Hounds. Batman 136 falls right into this period like a wet sack of old shoes. Even a Joker cover and story is so poorly executed to the point that the reader wonders if the strip is trying to kill itself for a tax write off. Poorly drawn with no good sense of dramatics, character or perspective it's impossible to generate excitement. Even a half baked story can be saved by Artists with passion, but at this point all involved are phoning it in and probably glad that their names were not on the finished product.Read full review

Excellent example of cartoonish perils from this time period. The Jokers fantastic flying machine surrounding the two heroes with a ring of fire adds a great focal point to any collection.
