D. D. PAULUS, nee FLOY V. STOUFFER, living in open and flagrant adultery. Have abducted my little girl, Aileene, age 12, and Desmond, boy, age 9, from the jurisdiction of the 67th District Court of Tarrant County, Texas, on August 12th, 1914. Also took Leila Bass, age 8, and Flossie Bass, age 3. Bass deserted his invalid wife and heart-broken mother, while under treatment for weeks for sciatic rheumatism. Bass left her 20 cents, and Floy V. Stouffer gave her 10 cents car fare to get free treatment at hospital, while she would take all the children to a picnic. This was the last seen of them. The mother and wife is entirely prostrated over the loss of her children, and is dependent upon charity, as she is an in- valid and unable to suppert herself, and her father, an aged veteran, is unable to provide for her. This is the second time Bass has deserted his wife, and the second home he has destroyed in less than three years. One wife and mother he lured away from her home in Denton, Texas, and deserted her several months later. He has served two years in state's prison for stealing horse.Mrs. Paulus was lead into the Bass home through the death and burial of their 10 days old baby. Be- ing neighbors, I gave them the use of my carriage, paid for the flowers that were used at the funeral. As the Bass family were in great need--he being a reckless spender in pool rooms, saloons and dives--Mrs. Paulus said that was the reason she wanted to help Mrs. Bass, and she visited her constantly. But now Bass began luring this wife and mother of four children out at night, into parks and lonely roads; the wife saying she was at church. Myself and sons protested, but of no avail. On October 19, 1914, she left this home: made application for divorce and custody of the children, Aileene, a little girl 12 years old, a little boy, Desmond, 8 years old. She would not listen to Karl or Donald. Bass now had entire and complete control of her. He would visit her rooms; would be out with her at night, and at the end of three weeks she was told to vacate her rooms on account of Bass' visits. My sons, Karl and Donald, begged their mother not to receive Bass again, as they would provide for her, and he was the only and entire cause of their ruined home. She replied: "I will do as I please. You can shift for yourselves." On Jan. 5. 1914,Bass induced this woman to come to his home with the children. Mrs. Bass made vigorous protest, but of no avail.Bass now worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. On Dec. 28. 1913, the store was robbed of $295.00. Bass was accused of the crime and summarily discharged. On January 4, 1914. Floy V. Stouffer deposited $290 10 in the Fort Worth National Bank The deserted wife has made affidavit that Bass and Fley V. Stouffer quarelled many times over this money on deposit. Bass claimed the money and sware be would write a check and get all of it, assaulting her, striking her on the arm, bruising her arm and teating off false hair and switch taking it with him. She followed him to the wagon yard and gave him the money. The disurce was granted in June, 1914. the judge witholding his decision on the children 10 days. 1 immediately madeapplication on new evidence for possession of the children: the judge finally awarding me the children without any recourse whatever. Mrs. Bass this day has told me how they punished my little girl for remonstrating when Bass laid some hair pins on het plate at breakfast, and said: "They belong to your mother. I found them in my bed; ahe slept with me last night." My dear Birtle girl, 12 years old, was severely punished for this, a large parasol being broken over her head. Mrs. Bass fought the mother and Baas off and cried for help. Sincs this woman obtained divorce, Mrs. Basa has been in constant fear of her life, and locked herself and her children in her room at night. This woman's and as conduct was so debasing, imoral and flagrant before all the children that the neighbors signed a perition to have her and Bass removed from their street. A few days after this the woman took Mrs. Bass children, with mine.and sunder the guise of going to a picnic, met Bass at depot and left for parts unknown. I believe my children's life and moral character are in the greatest danger, and any information as to their location will bemost thankfully received by their heart bruken father, D. D.
