THIS IS AN ORIGINAL & UN-CUT WWII M1 BAYONET MANUFACTURED BY UTICA CUTLERY BETWEEN 1943-1945.
BAYONET BLADE IS 10” INCHES IN LENGTH WITH 4” HANDLE.
THIS IS NOT A CUT DOWN M1905 BAYONET,
BUT THE NEWLY DESIGNED, U.S. ARMY ADOPTED, APPROVED & DESIGNATED MODEL – M1 BAYONET (Production began in 1943)
 
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL & ALL ORIGINAL WWII M1 BAYONET WITH ORIGINAL WWII M7 SCABBARD.  THIS IS A VERY NICE ALL ORIGINAL & COMPLETE SET.
 
THE BAYONET IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
SHOWS LITTLE IF ANY USE.
IT RETAINS IT’S FULL & DEEP PARKERIZED FINISH THRU-OUT THE BLADE.   STILL BEAUTIFUL DARK RICH PARKERIZATION.

NOTE: The underside of the top plate of the throat is stamped with a marking in the pattern of B 4 N where the * may be either blank or a single digit number. According to historical records the B stood for Beckwith and the N for New England Pressed Steel. The numbers were sequential and represented steel batch lots and stamping runs for quality control purposes. Due to the batches of steel being procured in differing amounts, each number does not represent the same number of throats produced.

 About The Utica Cutlery Company
The Utica Cutlery Company was founded in 1910 by a group of prominent Utica, NY businessmen. It was felt that a metal working industry would create employment and bring economic balance to the area. The primary industry in Utica at the time was textile manufacturing. We are the oldest continuous same site knife manufacturer in the country.  The original location for the company was 820 Noyes Street, Utica, NY.   Through the years, several major additions were made to the building, but the address remains the same. The current size of the factory and office is approximately 100,000 square feet.  The company has continuously manufactured pocket knives since 1910. In 1918, fixed blade kitchen cutlery was added.

During World War II, the company manufactured bayonets and carbine parts and earned UTICA the coveted Army-Navy E. award, as well as a number of other awards for achievement in War Production.

At wars end in Europe, it was determined that American Fork and Hoe had sufficient capacity to supply all requirements and further supply needs for the M1 bayonet, and Utica\'s contracts were terminated on June 30, 1945.
 M1905 Bayonet – M1 BayonetThe Model of 1905 bayonet was made for the U.S. M1903 Springfield rifle. This designation was changed to Model 1905 in 1917, and then to M1905 in 1925, when the Army adopted the M designation nomenclature. The M1905 bayonet had a 16 inch (40.6 cm) blade, and a 4 inch (10.1 cm) handle. The bayonet was designed to fit both the M1903 Springfield and M1 Garand rifles.
In 1943, a shorter 10 inch (25.4 cm) bladed version was produced with a black molded plastic handle, and was designated:
M1 bayonet.The M1 bayonet and M1905E1 BayonetIn 1943, the U.S. Army decided to shorten the M1905 bayonet\'s blade to 10 inches (25.4 cm) and as many of the M1905 and M1942 16” bayonets as possible were recalled, their blades were cut down to size, and were reissued. These shortened M1905 bayonets were re-designated as M1905E1.
The U.S. Army also then introduced the new M1 Bayonet which was designed to be used with the M1 Garand rifle.
The M1 bayonet\'s blade would be 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and the handle would remain 4 inches (10.1 cm) long.
The M3 Scabbard
A new scabbard had to be developed & the designed scabbard was designated the M3.
The M3 scabbard had a fiberglass body, with a metal throat, and was equipped with hooks which fixed to the cartridge-belt.The history of M1 Garand Bayonetsby Robert Gibson of The Fulton ArmoryBAYONET, M1: In mid-1943 a new bayonet was ordered with shorter blade of 10\" length. It was identical to the WWII 1905 except for the 10\" blade. A shorter M7 olive-drab metal/fiberglass scabbard came with it. A very few of the early 1943 production M1 bayonets were dated, however, the vast majority are undated.
