Grouping consists of a fine patched and IDd A-2, along with the man\'s service coat, trousers, shirt. and overseas cap. Grouping was purchased from a relative, who opted to keep the original paperwork (but provided photocopies). Orn earned the DFC, AM with 3 OLCs and GCM. 3 stars on his ETO ribbon.
Starting with the A-2, jacket is a Perry Sportswear in size 40, and is tagged as such. Veteran penned his service number just above the tag. Liner is also AN marked just below the tag. Lining is coming loose along the top edge at the collar into the shoulders. Also coming loose along the bottom armpit area, and along the bottom pocket edges. Knits all appear intact and without the large wear spots and holes commonly encountered. A couple small holes along the back side of the jacket that do not detract. Leather is soft and subtle. I would consider this a wearable jacket, however the lining would need to be stabilized prior to wear. Rare unauthorized British embroidered 706th Bomb Squadron patch is neatly stitched to the left breast of the coat.
Service coat is a 1940 dated example size 38L, with the rounded eagle buttons. No ribbons or wings on the chest, but a fine felt 8th AAF patch on the left shoulder and a felt British made armorer specialist rating on the right cuff. Enlisted collar insignia is well made and possibly British made. Laundry marked inside. There is an enlisted AAF piped overseas cap in the pocket of the coat. No significant condition issues.
Shirt and trousers are nothing to write home about but came with the grouping and have no condition issues. There are additional items purchased with these, however their bulk does not necessarily add to this sale. Paperwork copies consists of short synopsis of all 35 missions typed out by Orn (as well as a short detail on his service and awards). Discharge, Aerial gunner and technical school diplomas, tech school assignment orders, draft documents, replacement depot promotion notices, initial crew assignment orders. I don\'t see any documents from overseas, everything appears to be before or after he returned (there are 40-50 pages of documents overall).
Last two photos are from an online search I just did, there is apparently a crew photo out there - and Orn is wearing an A-2 in it (probably this same jacket before the patch was attached).
