WWII Chelsea Brass Maritime Commission Victory Ship Wall Clock + PlusThis is an original and authentic Chelsea Brass Maritime Commission WWII Victory Ship Wall Clock, produced for the U.S. Government in the 1940?s by the Chelsea Clock Company, Boston, U.S.A. It has a screw-fit bezel, engraved silvered brass dial with Arabic numerals and marked Chelsea Clock Company, Boston, U.S.A., moon minute hand, eight-day lever-escapement ship\'s bell striking movement. This historical clock comes with an original Chelsea 3.3mm winding Key, and also an original and authentic WWII \"Ships for Victory\" US Maritime Merit Pin. The following is taken from the Chelsea Clock website:
Chelsea Clock manufactured marine mechanical clocks for installation on Victory Ships built by the U.S. Maritime Commission during World War II. In 1943, the U.S. Maritime Commission embarked upon a program to develop a new type of emergency ship that would replace those lost to German submarines during the early part of WWII. Dubbed the \"Victory\" ship, the new vessel was designed to be faster than its predecessor, the Liberty ship. The Victory ships were given the designation of VC2: V for Victory (ship type), C for cargo, and 2 for a medium-sized ship between 400 and 450 feet long. The first Victory ship, the \"S.S. United Victory\", was built at Oregon Shipbuilding in Portland and delivered on February 28, 1944. A total of 531 Victory ships were constructed by North American shipyards, comprising of 414 cargo ships and 117 attack transports. Ninety-seven of the Victories were outfitted as troop carriers; the others carried food, fuel, ammunition, material and supplies. Condition:
Seems excellent overall outer condition visually with great patina on brass surface. The dial brass silvering is slightly discolored. I have only unscrewed the bezel to take pictures and to lightly touch the minute hand in a forward motion, and the movement definitely worked and ran smoothly for a short time (10-15 seconds at a time). I also inserted the winding key and gave only a 1/4 of a turn wind, and the winding mechanism sounded good. This clock has been safely and properly stored in my personal collection for over 30 years, so I would imagine at least it could use a good cleaning, a calibration to it\'s regulator, and whatever else clock people do. Approximate Dimensions:
Case Diameter 7-3/4\" - Dial Diameter 5-1/4\" - Case Thickness 2-3/4\" Original WWII era \"Ships For Victory\" US Maritime Merit Pin
This pin comes from WWII era and government issued to Maritime Ship builders and employees for meeting wartime quotas in the ship yards. Great looking half dollar size metal pin with enamel red paint and a large Eagle carrying an anchor with it\'s wings shaped like a \"V\" (For Victory), thirteen stars and SHIPS FOR VICTORY spelled out. The back is well marked with the maker AE. Co. Utica N,Y., and heavily worn traces of patent number 131446. Pin Dimensions: 1.625\" (1 5/8\")
Condition: Nice with over 70 years of wear (Pin solid and fastens)
