WW2 USAAF N-6A Aircraft Turret Reflector Gunsight - B-17 B-24 Bombers NOS For Sale

You are offerding on a SUPERB example of aWW2 USAAF N-6A Reflector Gun Sight! This gunsight was used specifically in Turret Gunner positions of various bomber aircraft, such as the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator, but was also used occasionally in fixed positions.

Made by EA Laboratories, the N-6A reflector sight,was thefirst of the N- series to be specifically designed for flexible gunnery for usein turrets not equipped with compensated sights. AAF Material Command alsorequested the N-6 to replace the old iron sights on all other gun positionsin medium and heavy bombers (but most period photos clearly show it didn’thappen).The sight andoptical system, also very similar to the ones of the N-3, were more compact.Also, it was equipped with:

a flipping greensun filter ;

an attachable ringand bead back-up sight in case of electrical failure of the sight;

an easilyreplaceable bulb;

a single ring withcentral dot orange reticle.

Early N-6s werefitted with a 29.7 mil ring reticle later replaced by a more standard 70 milring reticle.

The N-6 was mostwidely used in Martin and Bendix upper turrets, B-24 turrets (nose and tail),B-17 chin turrets and on the remote control sighting station of the P-61 nightfighter. Adapter rings were also available for fitment of either A-1 or A-2tilting heads for use as a fixed gunnery gunsight on attack and light bomberplane(c), but if these combinations were ever used operationally is unclear.

Made of aluminum, steel, and glass,and dating around 1944, this is an AMAZING NOS example. Though there are some light scratches and wear from storage, it retains 98% of it\'s original finish with the original bulb! All the glass is original to this sight, and includes a flip up sun shield so that the pilot could see easier when flying in brighter light. The data plate is 98% intact, and clearly indicates the model and type. The original connection line fittings are also present, and it is still factory sealed! A bit of dust and dirt from storage, but that can easily be rectified by the winning buyer. I have shown it\'s location in the last photos. Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection, display, or simply as a conversation piece!
