The third and final chapter of the Marvel Studios'Guardians of the Galaxy debuts in early May 2023, and with it comes a send-off for the characters once painted as the MCU's most unlikely to succeed candidates. Unlike Marvel's other heroes that have enjoyed their own cinematic trilogies, the Guardians -- or at least the roster of this iteration of the Guardians-- won't be continuing into future films. Given circulating rumors that one if not more of the characters will die in the film, GoTG Vol. 3 really will be "The End"... for most members of the cast, at least.
ADAM WARLOCK (Will Poulter), the newest of Marvel's cosmic characters to be introduced in Guardians Vol 3,is destined to be seen in future Marvel Studios' projects, likely as a member of the next incarnation of the titular team. Indeed, Warlock was a founding member of the comics' "modern" Guardians' roster, joining the group along with STARLORD, ROCKET and GROOT during the Annihilation crossover event of the late 2000's.
Incredibly powerful, Warlock's been called the "prefect comic book super-hero" -- but not because of his many vaunted abilities. Born a blank slate, Warlock's character is destined to repeat a very specific cycle: He's hatched from a space cocoon, he saves the day, he becomes worried he'll turn evil or actually does become evil, and then he dies -- only to begin the cycle again at some future point. And, it's a cycleof which he is aware.
So if you've been wondering about what makes Adam Warlock cool, what makes him different -- well, there it is. Warlock and The Infinity Watch, written by Infinity Gauntlet scribe JIM STARLIN, continues the story of Warlock in the immediate aftermath of his taking the all-powerful Gauntlet and its gems away from the Mad Titan.Launched at the very beginning of the Modern era in 1992, the series features several modern Guardians characters as well as explores the many cosmic entity-type characters of the Marvel Universe like LIVING TRIBUNAL, CHAOS and ETERNITY. It's a great character study of its titular hero, too, and it's this that pushes it into the "Top Spot' of Warlock's few Modern Age keys.
