A sturdy metal concertina style corkscrew with accordion style arms that expand to uncork your wine bottle.
The beautiful corkscrew was produced in France, designed, and patented by Marie Jules Leon Bart on March 29, 1920, and is still made with the original molds and presses. It is one of the most famous and well known of the French compound lever corkscrew.
The name Zig Zag is marked on both sides of the pull handle, and the older ones are engraved with a number on the handle disc, which represents the year of manufacture. So without that, one can pressume it was made post-1970.
"S. G. D. G." on the handle disc is the abbreviation for Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement, meaning without the guarantee of the Government. The "M & M DEP" is for MARQUE ET MODELE DEPOSES, referring to trademark registration.
This particular design has two crown cork cap lifter hooks/tabs on the uppermost arms for removing caps from beer, seltzer, or soda bottles, and is ideal for use behind the bar, in the kitchen, or on a picnic.
