Offered is an old vintage mud cloth painted with tribal birds and patterns.
Handmade item
Materials: cotton, clay, plants, mudcloth
Color: Dominant brown
The mud cloth is a piece woven from several
strips of cotton, dyed using a very old
traditional technique in Mali. The dye is
made from a muddy mixture of bark, foliage
and clay.
Perfect for hanging on a wall, or anywhere you want a tribal vibe. This is a very old authentic piece. There are no condition issues. From an estate sale of an older couple which leads me to surmise it was picked up in their travels then stored away for years.
Mud Cloth Origins
In its place of origin, Mali, West Africa, mud cloth is worn by hunters as ritual protection and as a badge of status. Immediately after childbirth, women are wrapped in the cloth, as it is believed to have the power to absorb pain and deflect anything negative or dangerous.
