Vintage Syroco Wood Bookends Nautical Wharf Scene Tall Ship Harbor Seaside
- 6.5\" H x 4.75\" W x w.5\" D
- c 1950
I was delighted to find this vintage pair of bookends at an estate sale. They are charming and feature an idyllic seaside harbor scene with a tall ship. On the pier are attached buildings, including the Red Lion, which I presume is a pub.
The bookends are heavy and are in good used condition. There are everyday wear and usage marks that are commensurate with the age of these beauties. Note that there is one small crack in one bookend that is inconsequential. See photo. They are handsome!
Background
The Syracuse Ornamental Company (Syroco) was founded in 1894. Decorative items were made in pressed wood pulp which looked realistically like hand carved wood. In later years, there were updates on the composition adding plastic type materials.
