This is a Nord Mende Boheme radio circa 1963. A gem of a radio, this unit is a definite attention getter.
The cabinet is in good condition. I did have to seal a very small separation at the corner of the case (upper right in rear while looking at the face of the unit) which was minor. There was a wooden internal support that came loose at the same spot as the separation which leads me to believe that the unit had been mishandled. Some gorilla wood glue and a couple of clamps overnight cured that little issue. The overall finish is in great condition!
The speaker grill cloth is a bit stained but not too terrible. I chose to leave it alone.
Dial glass is spotless with no scratches, chips, missing paint, etc...
Knobs are in great condition with no cracks or chips.
This Nord Mended model is called a BOHEME while the backboard reads "Boheme C". The Boheme C was an export version of the Boheme which would have had English printing on the dial face. This one is in German which tells me that someone put the wrong backboard on for unknown reasons (mistake or by design). As it is in good condition, I do not consider this to be a detriment to the value of the unit as a whole.
I have replaced the electrolytic capacitors due to bad hum on initial test but have done nothing else. After which this radio was plugged into the dim bulb tester. BAM! It came to life! Reception was top notch. An external antenna made it even better. All bands (AM, SW, and FM) show good reception.
I have dusted out the inside and polished the outside. Take a close look at the pictures and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Word of wisdom: While I did replace the electrolytic capacitors (100 uf and 50 uf), I do not consider this to be fully restored. It works very well at the moment but as it is over 60 years old, I highly recommend that it be completely restored before it is used as a daily listener. In this instance, I chose to leave the job up to the buyer.
