Vintage No. 2 Split Handle Drain Spade - The Wood Shovel and Tool Co. For Sale

Up for sale is this The Wood shovel Tool Company drain spade. As you can see from the photos this shovel is in very good condition. The wood on the shovel is in excellent condition. It has been cleaned and Fluid Film has been applied to all the metal. Fluid Film has simply been, by far, the best non-toxic rust and corrosion preventative. I applied one coat of Sherwin Williams Int./Ext. wood stain to the wood. Could use another coat though. The shovel isn’t perfect. There is normal use like previous rust that has been stopped from progressing, scratches, etc. However, I have had this shovel for several years and still haven’t seen a single one that comes close to the condition of this one. On the front of the shovel it reads “2 Heat Treated Closed Back Patent No. 2031556 P.” Just above the 2 where the metal piece is attached to the wood it reads “Pat. No. 2178509.” On the small metal band on the front of the handle it reads “The Wood Shovel & Tool Co. Piqua, Ohio.” The Piqua Ohio part is hard to read.On the back of the spade it reads; just above the wood where the metal piece is attached to the wood it reads “Pat. No. 2178509.” On the small metal band on the back of the handle it reads “Pat. 1727368-1727333.”The total length of the shovel is 41 1/2 in. The measurements of the spade itself is 15 3/8 in. x 6 1/8 in. This shovel was produced sometime between 1936 and 1940.Check out my other shovel from The Wood Shovel & Tool Co.
