Mr. Barredo named the mine after one of his daughters, Darlene, who unfortunately passed when she was a younger woman… and he mined the turquoise throughout the 1970’s, primarily with a son-in-law. The turquoise extracted could be light blues, dark blues, or even some greens. No longer an active turquoise mine, today the Darling Darlene Turquoise Mine is part of a larger gold mining operation. Very little turquoise was produced at Darling Darlene, in part because of the remote location, difficult weather conditions, and short mining season.
