$29.99

Vintage Missouri Meerschaum Co. Mac Sunday Cob Pipe - Unused. The bowl is 4.25" tall. The top is 1.25" and the base of the bowl is about 1". The stem is 9.5" with the mouthpiece and 6.5" without. The total length with the bowl is 10.5".
Farmer boys in the United States often smoked the silky leaves of the corncob as a surrogate for tobacco and the idea to use the hard cob of the corn to make a pipe came about. The first person to produce corncob pipes was John Schranke. The cultivation of corn was his livelihood, so in 1872 he brought a bag of corncobs to the wood turner Henry Tibbe and asked him to turn the cobs into pipe bowls and add a wooden or reed stem.
The appearance of the pipe is greatly depending on the shape of the cob. The most characteristic shape is the Mac, a high cylindrical bowl with a long straight stem. This model is named after General MacArthur, who preferred this pipe style. This Mac was manufactured by Missouri Meerschaum Co. in Washington, Missouri. It comes with a transparent amber-colored mouthpiece and is unsmoked.
Although this pipe is unsmoked, there is still some normal wear due to age and being moved around. The mouthpiece does have teeth marks as well.
