Vintage Mexican Folk Art Woodcarving Wolf Cayote Style Manuel Jimenez
Artes Folklorico presents a wonderful vintage Mexican folk art woodcarving in the style of Manuel Jimenez. He is considered one of the most famous woodcarvers out of Mexico. He started selling pieces in Oaxaca in the 1960s and over time is work became recognized by collectors and museums throughout North America. His woodcarvings are captivating and breath life in a way that only a master can achieve. This woodcarving looks like either a Wolf or Cayote. The piece is painted with aniline dyes which were popular in Oaxaca in the 1960s/70s. The most striking part of the animal is the open mouth revealing a set of ferocious andmenacing teeth. The piece is quite tall measuring 9-inches in height, 3-inches in width and 12-1/2 inches in length. The wolf or coyote is in very good vintage condition with some slight signs of wear here and there (see photographs).
