Vintage K & E No. 6487 Internal Reel (Retractable string) Brass Plumb Bob, 8 oz For Sale

From my plumb bob collection - Here we have aVintage K & E No. 6487 Internal Reel (Retractable string) Brass Plumb Bob, 8 oz., 3-1/2\" Long. The bob is clearly identified on the side of the body. TheKEUFFEL & ESSER Co. manufactured the No. 6630 (and later numbered No.6487) Plumb Bob at least as early as 1883. There has been discussion that this may be a patentedplumb bob, however I have not yet found one. This bob has a diameter of1-5/8” and is 3-1/2\" long, and weighs 8 oz. Turningthe knurled top knob counterclockwise unwinds the string, while the oppositedirection rewinds the string. The two halves of the body unscrew to allow access to the string reel. The winding mechanism has two internal transitionpoints as can be seen in the pics. The winding mechanism works perfectly. The exterior ofthe Bob has a smoothsurface with a nicely aged patina.No owner\'s marks. These bobs are rarely seen, except in collections, and not all of them have working reels. Now is the time to get a working one to add to your collection !!
