A vintage 1963 hooked rug depicting a pair of baby ducks. The girl duckling has a red bow and shoes. The boy ducking has a blue and white bow, shoes, and cap. They are standing on a field of green grass with a single daisy at both ends against a sky backdrop. The entire rug has a 1 3/4\" steel blue border with an additional 1/4\" dark blue edge. Signed at lower right MAJ 1963.

This is an exceptional hooked rug for its genre. The shading is well executed with multiple layers of color. There is a slight difference in length of some of the details and outlines which adds to the overall visual depth. The sky background has a very subtle swirling with pale blue and white swirls to indicate clouds.

The rug was mounted on 1/4\" thick piece of Masonite with pink and brown yarn. As you can see by the pictures of the back the maker made a thorough job of it. Though we can\'t see the back it looks like the hooking was done on a burlap with a blue rolled edge binding. The pink and blue yarn used to mount the rug catches the binding, resulting in a well stretched and flat mounting. This rug was framed in a 60\'s era frame, however the frame was badly damaged so we removed it.

The rug is in excellent condition. Because it was mounted and framed when it was made there is no wear or soiling.

35 1/2\" wide x 24 1/4\" tall.

*Shipping Note* The Masonite is large and heavy so shipping will require a wood frame and a large heavy-duty box to safely ship. If preferred we can remove the rug from the board and roll it up which would save on shipping. This option may only be preferable if your not intending to hang this rug on a wall or can remount it on a another medium yourself, as a professional remounting may override the shipping savings.
