Insulators are great. They're old and they are rare. This is one that nobody else has. And we have gone to Great lengths to make it really beautiful. We are really proud of this one folks. We wanted to produce something with a little more depth and beauty than our colored insulators. To recreate the idea of a starry night, we applied six or more coats of cobalt blue to these. Then we added stars. And instead of one thick coat of clear protectant, we used a different product called Crystal Clear and used three coats. The result is a beautiful antique glass insulator that has depth, beauty, uniqueness, and stars. Each one takes quite a bit of time to create. We hope you will enjoy yours as much as we enjoyed creating it and each one is completely different.
We create each one of these stained glass insulators in our 150-year-old converted Tobacco Barn shop. I call it the bro barn. Staining glass is a slow, painstaking process. These are authentic, approximately 100-year-old clear glass insulators that we have enhanced with glass stain applied as a spray aerosol. The non-porous nature of glass requires many light coats, each one needing a considerable amount of care and drying time. Then we coat each one with a crystal clear coat, making them more scratch resistant, UV protected, and providing more shine and luster. The Cobalt Blue color is beautiful and really catches sunlight.
