Up for sale is an extremely rare Cellini Craft Handwrought tile double server by Max Willie (MW initials). It measures 18\" long by 8\" wide by 4 1/2\" tall. It consists of two aluminum lids with tile inserts. One is in perfect condition the other shows well but the tile has cracked but is fully intact. Inside are two original Pyrex glass bowls. One is in excellent condition but the other has a chip. On this piece the word argental is stamped incorrectly as artgental. It is an authentic piece and has been documented in the history of the product. This is an amazing piece and is likely over 80 years old.
Here is a little history on the product:Cellini Shop was established in Evanston, Illinois in 1914. During the Depression years, when silver-buying clients were scarce, many silversmiths went out of business. Walter Gerlach and Hans Grag survived by setting up Cellini-Craft in 1934 and creating a line of modestly-priced handwrought aluminum objects they named Argental (from the French word for silver). This plebian effort quickly became the company\'s main focus, rather than the manufacture of silver items and jewelry. Impressed on bottom with the Cellini-Craft Handwrought Argental mark.

Contact
Beforeyou offer and/or buy, please read the description and review the pictures carefully. Do your research. Contact me through if you should have any questions about my listings or need additional pictures on any of the items. If you should ever find an error in any of my listings, please let me know so that I can correct it. I make every effort to be accurate and honest in my descriptions. I research these items as thoroughly as I can before listing. Often, the items are retired and information is scarce. I welcome any additional information you may have as it can only improve my performance as a seller. The very last thing I want is for anyone to think I\'ve intentionally misrepresented an item I\'ve sold to them. I much prefer transparency and full disclosure. For that reason, I inspect closely the things I list. I describe and photograph my items in detail including and especially any defects I might find. I do this so that I can sell, and you can buy, with confidence and peace of mind. The item I describe and photograph is the item I will ship to you. Please note: Every effort is made to rendercolor accurately in my photos. However, colors look different under different lighting conditions and willappear differentacross various electronic media. For that reason, the colors in the photos should be consideredrepresentational. Similarly, most of the items I sell here are handmade and hand painted by different artistsin various time periods. Unlike mass-produced ware, allowingfor some minor variation in both color and design from pieces you\'ve seen, or may already own, is only reasonable. No two pieces are exactly identical, although, by and large, the precision between like items is uncanny. I stand in awe at the level of artistry exhibitedby every oneof these crafts persons. Most of the crystal and porcelain items I list I\'ve acquired from estates. A few I\'ve acquired at sales. In either case, they are pre-owned items, and with rare (and noted, see above) exception, they are in excellent condition with virtually no observable wear. But please know that there may exist some very minor but certainly acceptable wear commensurate with the age of the piece. I am neither selling nor pricing these as new items, even though they are often in like-new condition.A note of warning: Do NOT contact me seeking to strike a deal outside of on an active listing. This is a violation of policy and will be reported.
