Offered here is one of the iconic fountain pens of the first half of the twentieth century--the Waterman Hundred Year Pen. Initially released around 1939, the Hundred Year Pen offered distinctive styling. This one is from circa 1941 and featured a ribbed barrel and translucent barrel end. The cap and barrel are dark maroon, but a strong light inside the cap shows a bit of red translucency. The pen is approximately 6" (152.7 mm) long posted and the barrel is .46" (11.6 mm) in diameter.
As with nearly all Hundred Year Pens of this kind, the transparent barrel end has crystalized and has mostly crumbled away. There is a very small chip in the maroon barrel adjacent to the crystalized barrel end. The celluloid barrel and cap are otherwise in good condition without any cracks or personalization. The gold-filled trim is very good. The special Hundred Year stamped nib has a 5 mm long visible crack at the base of the nib. No attempt has been made to open the pen to determine the condition of the filling system which is currently non-functional. The pen is therefore offered as-is for parts or restoration. A project to be sure, but one which should yield excellent results for someone with the right restoration skills.
