Very Rare combo 1/9th size Daguerreotype and Pannotype of Caroline Peterson For Sale

2" X 2 1/2" image size. Very Rare Double exposure Daguerreotype dated Sept, 1855. Plus an Excellent quality Pannotype image done on Mica October 1856. Pannotypes were made mostly between 1853-1860 as an alternative to the Daguerreotype or Ambrotype images which were subject to easy damage by touch. Mostly flexible materials were used such as card stock, oilcloth, paper and leather where an image was made and then transferred onto the new material. A good number of them were made but the majority were lost due to deterioration and damage. I have only found about 8 Pannotypes in 14K images I have worked with and only this one done on Mica. In completing research, I did find that a few were done on Mica, mostly in Europe though. Caroline's father was an immigrant from Belgium who studied with some of the finest jewelers and watch makers in Europe before coming to America. Caroline was an only daughter who took over the business in adulthood. The Pannotype was found carefully folded in the tissue paper and placed inside the case under the Daguerreotype. I placed it between cover glass pieces in a 1/6th size brass frame so that it has some protection and identification could be read. The 1/9th case is full with split hinge. Very nice set of two Very Rare items with provenance included.
