Very Rare, andhistoricallyimportant Women\'s Suffrage Movement Medal from the 9th Congress in Rome / 1923. It\'s in fantastic original condition - un-cleaned. It\'s made of bronze and has a small makers mark on the front that shows a crown over the letter \"Z\". This represents the Royal mint in Rome. I\'ve not been able to find another of these for sale, and the only other example I\'ve been able to find is housed in the Harvard University Women\'s Suffrage Movement collection. There\'s a great part in the book by \"Peace on our Terms\" by Mona Siegel that references the specific importance of this 1923 meeting in Rome. It should also be pointed out this was the largest Women\'s Suffrage Congress and was held on the heels of Mussolini\'srule which began in 1922.

The 9th Conference of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance has been referred to as the biggest conference of women\'s suffrage ever.It had a more globally international character than ever before, including delegates from not only the Western world, but also from the rest of the world, which had not been the case before.
Among the most well known delegates were Hoda Shaarawi of Egypt, and it was on her return from this conference that Shaarawi famously removed her hijab in public on her return to Egypt, signifying the beginning of the liberation of the women of Egypt.
It was now the International Woman Suffrage Alliance (IWSA) changed its name to International Alliance of Women (IAW).
