For your consideration I have aVintage Hamilton Beach 40DM Triple Head Milkshake Mixer in Jadeite. This unit was used in a family owned ice cream parlor for decades and when it was retired several years ago I purchased it and have kept it in my kitchen ever since. This past year I took the machine apart and thoroughly cleaned and performed some maintenance on it. Rather than doing a restoration I chose to sort of lock it in time the way it came out of the parlor.
Here is a list of the things that were done to it:
Back was opened up and thoroughly cleaned and Flood Penetrol was applied to both prevent additional rust formation and to also preserve the patina. There are some cool videos online about how this product is used.
Two new switches were installed on the right and left sides ($25 replacement cost for each). The middle switch is original.Cleaned up the electrical wiring when the new switches were installed.
All motors and housings were thoroughly cleaned and bearings greased. Literally every internal nut, bolt, and spring was cleaned before reassembling.
Motor brushes were replaced where required. I honestly don't recall if I replaced every brush because some motors typically get a lot less use than others in a restaurant or ice cream parlor setting. Either way, there is enough life left in them to last a lifetime of home use and likely years in your shop.
Things to note:There is a lot of natural patina on this mixer as you might imagine. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you would like additional photos as the listing only allows for 24 to be uploaded.
The switch on the right sticks slightly but can be release by hitting it with the mixing cup a couple of times or by pushing down on it with a thin object.
The speed switch on the left operates as Slow/High/Medium instead of Slow/Medium/High.
The back plate and top cover were painted at some point so they have a duller finish than the porcelain pieces.
The product Flood Penetrol was used on the interior parts that are not coated in porcelain to preserve the patina of the unit and to protect it from additional rust and to make for easier cleanup. There are a few spots where the penetrol pooled up on the outside and is still visible. Please see the photos of the back where you can see where this has happened. Would likely come off with some lacquer thinner.
Thank you!
