IMAGE COMICS | SKYBOUND ENTERTAINMENT
The comic book event of 2023 -- and its debut of the Biggest New Shared Universe since Stan Lee introduced the Marvel Universe in 1961 -- begins HERE!
Launched concurrently in June 2023 with Paramount Pictures\' latest Hasbro-based film, Transformers: Rise of The Beasts (2023), Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment\'s VOID RIVALSintroduced in comics what Rise of The Beasts introduced in cinema: the brand-new, never before realized SHARED UNIVERSE -- the ENERGON UNIVERSE -- inhabited by both THE TRANSFORMERS and GI JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO.
The characters of Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici\'s Void Rivals aren\'t GI JOEs or Transformers; they\'re two brand new space-faring protagonists and born enemies, each having to come to rely on the other when fate brings them together on an isolated planet somewhere in the vast cosmos. That cosmos is the Energon Universe, and within its vastness also dwell the robotic lifeforms we know as Transformers as well as the human species, from which come the many heroes of GI JOE. And, from time to time, these disparate paths will cross.
Each and every time Hasbro\'s licensing rights to their biggest two toy lines -- GI JOE and Transformers -- is acquired by a different publisher (Marvel, Devil\'s Due/Image Comics, IDW Publishing and now Image Comics / Skybound), something new and different and noteworthy is certain to happen to differentiate it from what came before. But Skybound Entertainment\'s relaunch of both GI JOE and Transformers is different in many ways. While no other publisher introduced an all-new concept series to run alongside the Hasbro franchise books, Skybound\'s turn at bat also marks the fruition of Hasbro\'s decades-held goal to officially unite both their IPs under one roof. For while the Joes and the Transformers have met in print several times before, the stories told were more akin to DC \"Elseworlds\" tales; they were never recognized in the regular continuity. As of Void Rivals #1, such a status quo no longer exists.
