Here is a vintage Parker Vacumatic “Slender” sized fountain pen and matching mechanical pencil set in Burgundy celluloid.
Both fountain pen and mechanical pencil have been used, but are in excellent condition.
Fountain pen and pencil both measure approximately 4-3/4” capped and 5-3/4” posted.
The fountain pen has been completely restored and is in working order. The Vacumatic filler has been removed from the back end of the pen, allowing proper cleaning of the barrel and filler unit. Once everything was inspected and cleaned, a new diaphragm was cut to the proper length and installed into the aluminum Lockdown filler. The Lockdown filler was reinstalled into the pen and tested to ensure proper filling and functionality. Section, nib, feed and breather tube were removed from the barrel. Section was flushed the remove previous ink that may have been in the pen. Once the front end of the pen it was reinstalled. Pen was tested with Parker Quink ink. Pen writes a fine line with little line variation.
Gold filled trim is clean on both pen any pencil. Minimal brassing found on the high points and high wear areas of the trim. Note: pictures make gold fill trim look like they have more brassing than they actually do. Fountain pen tassie does have a scratch on it, possibly from a tool at some point. Nose cone on mechanical pencil also has some marks/scratches on it, again possibly from a tool or teeth.
Fountain pen is free from any chips, cracks or breaks. Cap lip is free from any cracks. No names or initials imprinted anywhere. Factory Parker barrel imprint is present and legible. Slight shrinkage at the filler end of the barrel, typical on these early Slender and Junior sized Vacumatics.
Mechanical pencil free from any chips, cracks or breaks. No names or initials anywhere. Factory imprint is present, although it does have more wear to it than the fountain pens imprint.
Note: I have not polished the celluloid on either pen or pencil. Normal wear and usage marks are expected. I chose not to use any sanding pads or abrasives in order to enhance the finish.
Parker 14k nib. Fine and firm, with little line variation. Writes a smooth line.
