VINTAGE CHINESE CULTURAL REVOLUTION PAINTED PORCELAIN VASE MAO ZEDONG For Sale

GJPawsales is pleased tooffer an evocative vintage Chinese Cultural Revolution Mao Vase. During the Great Proletariat CulturalRevolution of 1966–1976, works of art were expected to foment revolution - and under enormous pressure from guidelines of the Central Cultural Revolution Group, led by Mao\'s fourth wife Jiang Qing - in her words, were to be \"red, bright, and shining\" (hong, guang, liang), like Jiang Qing\'s own revolutionary operas. The glorious history of Chinese ceramics, that most Chinese of art forms, was no exception. This stunning vintage vase isbeautifully decorated with colorful imagery depicting scenes from the life ofMao Zedong, together with script, emblems and motifs typical of the period.Shown in the main image is an emblematic depiction of the heart, together withthe Chinese character for loyalty; quotations from Chairman Mao can be seen onthe opposite side, beneath an image of the leader at an airport (see also image7). Image 6 depicts a Chinese lantern, together with script referencing thePeople\'s commune and the Great Leap Forward; and image 5 shows Mao at Mount Luin Jiangxi province. The vase measures 8 inches in width by 4.5 inches in depthby 7.25 inches in height (20.3 cm by 11.4 cm by 19.0 cm). An important and authentic piece dating from the late 1960\'s, it showswear consistent with the dating, including stains, tiny chips, hairline cracks, small scrapes and rubbing, butgenerally is in very good condition. The bottom shows a period character porcelain mark. Guaranteed authentic, it would make a finecollector’s piece for anyone involved in Chinese porcelain or artifacts fromthe Cultural Revolution.
